WILLEMSTAD – Fewer Curaçaoan young individuals decided to move to the Netherlands to follow a course of study compared to last year. About 181 future students left for Schiphol on a slightly delayed KLM flight.
The departure hall was closed for visitors due to the corona crisis. The bursalen – as the departing Caribbean students are called – had to say their last goodbyes to friends and families outside.
A considerably larger amount of students left the island last year to go study in the Netherlands. 264 bursalen left back then with the assistance of Stichting Studiefinanciering Curaçao (SSC). Another 150 young individuals left for the US or Canada to go study, which is not possible this year due to the corona crisis.
