State Secretary Eric van der Burg (VVD, Kingdom Relations) paid a working visit to Bonaire on Monday and Tuesday. The program included visits to the mangroves near Sorobon, water and utility company WEB, and a press moment at the office of the acting Kingdom Representative.
In addition, Van der Burg, along with the project team of the Public Entity of Bonaire, visited various Bonaire Region Deal projects. During these visits, he received an explanation of plans for, among other things, public transportation, road safety around schools, solar panels on schools, and improving logistics around the harbor. The press was not invited to this part of the visit: the Public Entity issued a press release about it afterward.
Region Deals for the future
According to Van der Burg, the projects are important for the future of the island. “Bonaire is growing rapidly, and that puts a lot of pressure on the quality of life, housing, and work for the residents of Bonaire. This is exactly why the Region Deals were created. I can see that the first steps have been taken, and I look forward to more visible results for the residents of Bonaire.”

State Secretary Eric van der Burg and STINAPA Director Melissa van der Hoorn meet prior to the visit to the mangroves.
